This opportunity involves working full-time at a client office to support the development of traffic signal requirements (TSR) plans and traffic signal timing (TS) plans for the City of Chicago Department of Transportation. Candidates should have experience assisting in the production and modification of these plans and prior work experience for a city department of transportation and/or similar experience with this type of traffic signal infrastructure. A strong working knowledge of the placement of signal poles, signal pole foundations, mast arms, cabinets, controllers, and accessible pedestrian signals (APS) is preferred. What You'll Do Complete assigned work within the schedule and hours provided. Prepare and/or modify project reports, plans, designs, and calculations. Develop project quantities and assist with cost estimates. Support engineering teams with organization and administrative tasks related to design files. Complete various research, data collection, field investigations, and design tasks independently. Perform other duties as assigned. What You'll Need Bachelor's degree in Engineering with 2 years of relevant experience, or Master’s degree in Engineering with 1 year of relevant experience. What You'll Bring Experience in preparing Traffic Signal Requirements (TSR) plans, Traffic Signal Timing (TS) plans, and knowledge of traffic signal layouts in urban environments. Understanding of engineering principles relevant to traffic signal infrastructure. Familiarity with Microsoft Office, MicroStation, AutoCAD, or similar software. Ability to design complex signal timing sequences and review designs. Experience conducting field surveys and analyzing traffic data. Ability to prepare engineering plans and cost estimates for traffic projects. Experience coordinating with city departments and utilities on traffic signal projects. Ability to resolve construction issues and monitor project progress. Experience with traffic control devices and traffic flow management. Ability to train and guide junior staff. Knowledge of Central Signal System and Intelligent Transportation Systems. What We Prefer Engineer in Training (EIT) certification. Knowledge of MicroStation, AutoCAD, and Synchro software.
