Title: Temporary Support Assistant Title Code: D33019 Division/Department: Varies Reports To: Principal/Manager Position Summary: Under the direction of the supervising teacher or administrator, Temporary Support Assistants (TSA) assist teachers with the physical, emotional, behavioral, and instructional needs of students at the Preschool/PreK, elementary, and secondary grade levels. Responsibilities include supervision of students throughout the school day, both in the school building and on work sites, carrying out instructional tasks, supporting self-care, and collecting data as outlined by professional staff based upon individual student objectives. Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Participates in routine supervision of students throughout the school day within the school building and/or worksite/community environment; assists on/off bus, lifting, pushing students in equipment, and monitors entry and exit of students. Assists students with proper social behavior, personal hygiene, and self-help skills, including toileting, feeding, and grooming as assigned. Supports students during instruction and other curriculum tasks, reinforcing subjects initially introduced by the teacher. Observes and manages student behavior in various learning environments according to approved procedures. Gathers data regarding student performance on instructional and behavioral goals and provides data to the supervising teacher. Supports students with social, emotional, and behavioral concerns, implementing behavior strategies and supports. Follows policies and procedures while assisting students and staff in the building and off-site activities. Participates in professional development and attends workshops for specialized care needs as provided by the Board of Education. Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required. Education: High School Diploma or Equivalency Certificate, preferably supplemented by formal academic courses/training in child development with applications to special education. Experience: None Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to exercise considerable patience and work with students with multiple disabilities. Punctual, regular, and predictable attendance is essential. Demonstrated ability to effectively work with diverse populations. Ability to employ a variety of teaching styles to meet the needs of diverse learners. Proficiency with business technology applications (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite). Satisfactory score on any required tests. Physical Requirements: Ability to perform extensive walking, standing, carrying, climbing, bending, stooping, crawling, kneeling, and lifting. Ability to assist students with multiple disabilities, often involving lifting and pushing. Ability to lift up to fifty (50) pounds independently.
