Our team is comprised of highly skilled individuals, just like you, who are ready to put their best boot forward. Get ready to unearth your true potential and dig into the exciting world of HEI Civil!

We are looking to hire an experienced Senior Equipment Manager to join our team! The Senior Equipment Manager is a strategic enterprise leader responsible for optimizing the financial performance, lifecycle, compliance, and field readiness of a heavy civil equipment fleet of over 500 units. Reporting directly to the CFO, this role plays a critical part in aligning equipment operations with corporate financial objectives, ensuring audit readiness, and standardizing processes across all regions. The ideal candidate blends hands-on equipment expertise with financial acumen, leadership capability, and cross-functional partnership.

Responsibilities:

Fleet & Financial Performance:

  • Support the CFO by tracking, reporting, and forecasting the financial impact of equipment utilization, cost recovery, depreciation, and ROI.
  • Develop and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) related to fleet efficiency, operating costs, and cost-per-hour metrics.
  • Conduct cost-benefit and lease-versus-purchase analyses to guide capital investment decisions.
  • Lead efforts to align equipment management practices with audit standards and financial reporting requirements.

Enterprise Alignment & Process Standardization:

  • Standardize equipment-related processes, maintenance protocols, and reporting tools across all locations.
  • Develop and enforce enterprise-wide procedures to ensure consistency, accuracy, and compliance.
  • Maintain audit-ready documentation for all equipment activity, including inspections, maintenance logs, cost tracking, and procurement.
  • Oversee procurement practices related to equipment acquisition and rental, ensuring alignment with financial goals and operational needs.

Leadership & Team Development:

  • In conjunction with Division Presidents, lead and support equipment managers across Colorado, Texas, and the Carolinas.
  • Conduct regular one-on-ones and team meetings to ensure alignment and accountability.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, and professional development within the equipment team.

Operations Partnership:

  • Collaborate closely with Regional Presidents and Equipment Operations Managers to anticipate equipment needs and align resources with project demands.
  • Support estimating and project management teams with accurate equipment rates, production insight, and lifecycle data.
  • Ensure proper equipment allocation and cost coding to projects to reflect true operational performance.

Maintenance, Compliance & Technology:

  • Lead adherence to preventive maintenance programs across the enterprise fleet.
  • Ensure full compliance with OSHA, DOT, and FMCSA regulations, including proper documentation and reporting.
  • Oversee implementation and optimization of GPS/telematics and fleet management software (e.g., HCSS, E360).
  • Identify training needs and partner with Safety and L&D to deliver effective equipment training programs.

Vendor & Asset Management:

  • Manage high-value vendor relationships; negotiate equipment purchase/rental agreements and monitor vendor performance.
  • Direct the company’s asset acquisition and disposal strategy, including capital planning and alignment with financial goals.
  • Ensure consistent procurement practices across regions with attention to cost control, compliance, and supplier accountability.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Finance, Mechanical Engineering, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
  • 8+ years of heavy civil or industrial equipment management experience, including budget oversight and team leadership.
  • Demonstrated financial acumen and understanding of how equipment impacts company profitability.
  • Strong working knowledge of heavy equipment, preventive maintenance, and fleet management software.
  • Exceptional leadership, mentorship, and interpersonal skills across multiple departments and locations.
  • Proficiency in data analysis, reporting, and process improvement documentation.
  • Experience with DOT compliance and procurement operations is strongly preferred.

Physical Requirements and Environmental Conditions:

  • Primarily office-based with frequent visits to field sites and shops; travel required to divisional offices in Texas and North Carolina.
  • Must be comfortable in a construction environment and adept at cross-functional collaboration.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Office-based work with varying temperatures.
  • Occasional travel to jobsites with fluctuations in weather.
