About the Team:
The Global Privacy & Regulatory Affairs legal team manages and oversees privacy and regulatory matters and initiatives pertaining to Bytedance's global operations. The team works cross-functionally with multiple stakeholders around the world. You will work in a fast-paced, challenging, and rewarding environment where your analytical, organizational and interpersonal skills will play an impactful role in tackling some of the most complex, interesting, and cutting-edge issues at the intersection of privacy and technology. We are seeking highly motivated professionals to join our team.
Responsibilities:
- Review requests from research and product teams seeking to conduct company research to improve TikTok's products and business for legal, regulatory, and compliance risks.
- Provide practical guidance and advice to business teams on how to manage legal, regulatory, and compliance risks in their research, including drafting and disseminating standard operating procedures, FAQs, and advised safeguards to protect data privacy and minimize risk.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with legal and business stakeholders across the globe to align on implementation of legal, regulatory, and compliance requirements and proposed mitigations for research teams.
- Design an improved, scalable process for legal, regulatory, and compliance review of company research.
- Proactively align with business and other company stakeholders to prioritize research on key company initiatives.
- Develop and deliver trainings to research teams on the legal, regulatory, and compliance review process and best practices for mitigating research-related legal, regulatory, and compliance risks.
- Keep up to date on the latest developments in the laws, regulations, and industry trends applicable to Big Tech, data collection, consumer protection, and other relevant areas to properly advise research teams.
Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:
- J.D. Degree from an ABA accredited law school (or foreign equivalent) with membership in good standing in a US state bar.
- Significant in-house or law firm experience advising on data privacy, data protection, and the legal and regulatory aspects of research and/or product development.
- Enjoys being challenged, is adaptable, and able to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
- Strong writing, presentation, and communication skills, with the ability to convey complex legal concepts to non-legal stakeholders.
- Ability to make risk-based decisions and develop innovative and business-focused solutions to emerging challenges. - Enthusiasm for designing new workflows and processes and performing ongoing optimization.
- Flexibility to work with colleagues, clients, and other stakeholders in time zones other than where the position is based.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong working knowledge of global privacy and data security laws, including those outside of the United States.
- Experience advising on data collection issues specifically related to Big Tech.
- Experience with policy development.
- Experience with understanding innovative technology and the technology product development process.
