Position Summary

We are seeking a creative and results-driven R&D Scientist to join our dynamic team in the baked goods industry. This role is central to driving innovation in new product development while also identifying cost-saving opportunities across our product portfolio. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in food science, bakery formulation, and commercial production, with a passion for delivering delicious, high-quality, and cost-effective products to market. The position will report to the Director of Sales.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Lead the development of new baked goods products from concept through commercialization, aligning with market trends, consumer insights, and customer requirements.
• Reformulate existing products to improve quality, reduce costs, and enhance nutritional profiles without compromising taste or texture.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with marketing, operations, procurement, and quality assurance to ensure feasibility, efficiency, and compliance throughout the development process.
• Conduct ingredient and supplier evaluations to identify opportunities for cost reduction and functionality improvements.
• Optimize production processes through scale-up trials, pilot plant testing, and technical support at manufacturing sites.
• Maintain detailed project documentation including formulations, process parameters, and trial outcomes.
• Ensure all new and reformulated products comply with food safety, labeling, and regulatory standards.
• Monitor and research emerging technologies, raw materials, and trends in the baked goods and broader food industry.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Food Science, Food Technology, or related field.
• 3+ years of R&D experience in the baked goods or broader food manufacturing industry.
• Proven experience in product formulation, sensory evaluation, and cost optimization.
• Strong understanding of bakery ingredients, functionality, and interactions in different applications (pies, cakes, pastries, cookies, etc.).
• Familiarity with stage-gate innovation processes and project management tools.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
