Job Description

Job Summary: We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Purchasing Manager to oversee and direct the activities of our purchasing and shipping department. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in procurement, excellent leadership skills, and the ability to manage vendor relationships effectively.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Manage Inventory Coordinator and shipping and receiving staff.
  • Oversee the daily workflow and schedules of the department.
  • Conduct timely and constructive performance evaluations.
  • Handle training, performance management, and upskilling of direct employees.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with other departments and leadership to identify and document needs for equipment, materials, products, and acceptable substitutions.
  • Assess current material availability and predict future availability using vendor relationships and market knowledge.
  • Prepare and present market conditions and merchandise cost reports to leaders and the commercial sales team.
  • Report on key metrics as indicators of departmental health.
  • Set up new vendors, prepare and process purchase orders and requisitions within SAP.
  • Draft, explain, and implement instructions, policies, and procedures for purchasing and contract management.
  • Resolve grievances with vendors and suppliers.
  • Maintain purchasing and recordkeeping systems, including tracking partial orders and reconciling invoices against inventory received.
  • Manage NSF compliance requirements for annual audits.
  • Act as the company’s representative in negotiations with suppliers.
  • Coordinate removal or disposal of surplus materials.
  • Coordinate inventory management.
  • Administer the departmental budget.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Thorough understanding of materials and supplies used in the company.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred; additional years of experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • At least three years of experience in a related field required.
  • Experience with SAP required.
  • People management experience required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to access all areas of the facility to determine needs with or without accommodation.
