Principal Industrial Design, Amazon Robotics

We’re looking to add an enthusiastic Principal Industrial Design to our team. In this role, you will collaborate with internal and external teams to design high-quality, cost-effective solutions for Amazon Robotics. You will own multiple projects simultaneously, from concept realization through design approval. You will be a primary point of contact for your projects and directly interface with our robotics hardware engineering teams.

You will work with a team of highly skilled and engaged Industrial and UI Designers, Ergonomists, Researchers, and Human Factors Experts to deliver on great User Experience across a wide variety of robotics systems.

Key Job Responsibilities

  1. Utilize human-centric thinking and impactful aesthetic sensibility to align with customer needs and preferences
  2. Thrive and be passionate about innovating new to the world products under ambiguity
  3. Demonstrate great design advocacy communication and collaboration skills with cross-functional teams
  4. Excellent organization skills and ability to define, track, and guide multiple design programs
  5. Design for manufacturing considering cost, scale, brand, and usability
  6. Become a subject matter expert on the intersection of robotics, user experience, and industrial design
  7. Set up contracts and work with external vendors and/or manufacturers and ensure quality and design intent are maintained
  8. Produce concept sketches, 3D Renderings, and prototypes ranging from quick low fidelity models to high fidelity cosmetic or functional prototypes
  9. Execute and deliver CAD surfacing/parametric models
  10. Own and deliver Design Guidelines and other mechanisms (incl CMF documents) for infusing human-centered design at scale
  11. Research new materials and manufacturing methods applicable to our range of products

Minimum Requirements

  1. Bachelor’s/master’s degree in Industrial Design
  2. 15+ years of professional industrial design experience
  3. 15+ years of experience with one or more ID surfacing and parametric CAD tools, preferably a combination of Rhino, SolidWorks, Keyshot
  4. An exceptional portfolio that demonstrates delivering successful products from concept to production
  5. Experience working with mechanical, electrical engineers, as well as production vendors and manufacturers
  6. 5+ years of experience in a highly technical hardware domain
  7. Experience as an in-house Industrial Designer, as well as experience at Design Consultancies
  8. Familiar with motion graphics and 3D animation expertise

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $141,500/year in our lowest geographic market up to $244,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
