Minimum Qualifications Requires technical knowledge in the field acquired through an apprenticeship, formal training programs, or on-the-job training. Preferred Qualifications Position Summary: Reporting to the Security Systems and Access Control Manager, the Locksmith ensures the security and functionality of residential community locks by accurately cutting keys, changing cores, and maintaining detailed records. Responsibilities include installing, repairing, and maintaining various locks and door hardware, as well as managing key control and responding to emergency lock-picking requests. Participation in the after-hours on-call program and other duties as needed are also required. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies Considerable knowledge and skills in the use of tools, equipment and practices used in the locksmith trade. Considerable knowledge of the operating principles of a variety of lock and key systems. Ability to develop and maintain good professional relationships with staff, residents and various customer groups. Ability to work as a team member, but also to make effective independent decisions and follow through on assignments. Efficiently utilize a variety of computer applications in the completion of assigned tasks. Ability to carry out work assignments with expected degree of independence and efficiency. Knowledge of workplace rules and guidelines and stay in compliance with UGA policies and procedures. Physical Demands Walk, climb stairs, ladders, scaffolds, may work from a ladder or scaffold. Bend at the waist and knees. Work with arms and hands overhead for extended periods of time. Lift and move items at least 50 pounds in weight. Duties/Responsibilities Accurately cuts keys, changes core pins and replaces cores in doors. Installs, repairs, replaces and maintains a variety of locks and associated door hardware. Accurately cuts single use, master and sub-master keys and assigns to staff. Picks locks as requested in emergency situations.
