Duties If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team that is responsible for complex investigations of violations of the False Claims Act, as well as other civil enforcement actions within the jurisdiction of the United States Attorney's Office. Typical work assignments will include:
- Independently plans and conducts extraordinarily complex and difficult investigations, most often of a confidential nature, involving target organizations with complex organizational structures, ownership and financial relations, and a large number of primary and subsidiary activities.
- Researches applicable statutes, regulations, rules, policies, procedures and other guidance regarding conduct under investigation.
- Examines books, ledgers, payroll, cost reports, billing statements, claims data, invoices, email, correspondence, computer data and other records pertaining to the transactions, events or allegations under investigation.
- Assimilates large amounts of information in order to determine whether a violation has occurred and makes recommendations to the Assistant U.S. Attorney regarding how to proceed.
- Initiates contacts with federal, state and local officials and other organizations and individuals related to subject of investigation for the purpose of gathering facts, obtaining statements, learning sequences of events, obtaining explanations and otherwise advancing investigative objectives.
- Analyzes data, reports and other sources to identify possible subjects for investigation.
Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

Qualifications To be qualified for the GS-13:
You must have at least one year of full-time specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level in the Federal service performing a variety of investigatory work. The following are examples of specialized experience:
- Formulating an investigative strategy including the identification of relevant issues, researching and identifying applicable laws, regulations, rules, policies and procedures; identifying potential evidence and the sequence of investigative steps, to present to the lead attorney;
- Preparing subpoenas seeking documents, information and testimony;
- Reviewing and analyzing large numbers of documents;
- Contributing to and organizing presentation of evidence, including the creation of PowerPoints, charts, graphs or other audio-visual aids.
Selective Placement Factor(s): A selective placement factor is determined to be essential for successful performance in this position. Those candidates who do not meet the following selective placement factor will be rated "not qualified" for the position.
Selective Placement Factor: Applicants must have experience searching for, reviewing, and analyzing Medicare claims data from a Medicare claims database.
