UPMC is seeking a dedicated Histotechnician or Histotechnologist to join our dynamic Histology Lab team. This full-time position is perfect for someone passionate about contributing to life-changing medicine in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.

Position Details:
\n
\n - Shift: Evening shifts 1 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
\n - Location: Clinical Lab Building in the Oakland section of Pittsburgh, near UPMC Presbyterian Hospital.
\n
\n

\n - Applicants will be placed in the appropriate role (Histotechnician or Histotechnologist) and salary level based on experience and education.
\n - The Histotechnologist role starts at $24.32 per hour .

UPMC is currently offering a generous sign-on bonus of up to $15,000 for Histotechnicians and Histotechnologists!
\n
Responsibilities:
\n
\n - Understands CoPath related to Histology workflow.
\n - Progresses towards working independently in an advanced staining area.
\n - Performs QC checks at each phase of processing/ staining
\n - Processes and prepares surgical and autopsy tissue specimens for embedding, cutting, staining and coverslipping.
\n - Embeds and cuts specialized tissue based on location including minute biopsy protocols.
\n - Ensures all tissues are embedded and cut according to department-specific protocols with proper orientation and complete sections including no folds, chatter, artifacts, or floaters.
\n - Accurately prepares slides for microtomy using the barcode label in order to maintain correct patient identification throughout the process.
\n - Maintains instruments following quality control specifications and daily maintenance protocols.
\n - Performs additional tasks such as filing, cleaning, stocking supplies.

\n
Histotechnician:
\n
\n - High school diploma.
\n - Completion of the educational requirements needed to take the Histotechnician (HT) exam:\n
\n - Successful completion of a NAACLS accredited HT program within the last 5 years OR;
\n - Associate's degree or at least 60 semester hours of academic credit from a regionally accredited college/university with a combination of 12 semester hours of biology and chemistry.
\n
\n \n - 1 year of clinical laboratory experience post-training is preferred.
\n
\n
Histotechnologist:
\n
\n - Completion of the educational requirements needed in order to take the Histotechnologist (HTL) certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP):\n
\n - B.S. Degree from a regionally accredited college/university with a combination of 30 semester hours of biology and chemistry AND successful completion of a NAACLS accredited Histotechnician or Histotechnology program within the last 5 years OR;
\n - B.S. Degree from a regionally accredited college/university with a combination of 30 semester hours (45 quarter hours) of biology and chemistry AND one-year full time acceptable experience in a histopathology laboratory in the U.S., Canada or a CAP/The Joint Commission (JCAHO)/AABB accredited laboratory within the last 10 years.

\n \n - Experience must be under the supervision of a pathologist (certified by the American Board of Pathology in Anatomic Pathology) or an appropriately board-certified medical scientist.
\n - 1 year of full-time experience in a histology laboratory preferred.
\n
\n
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
\n
\n - Am Society Clinical PathologyHistology Technician (HT) certification from ASCP is required within 1 year of hire.
\n - American Society for Clinical Pathology
\n
\n
