Position Overview The Truck Driver is responsible for operating trucks to transport dirt, aggregate, asphalt, and other materials and/or equipment to various job sites, and will work in the yard to stockpile and move materials as needed. This is a skilled position involving the safe and efficient operation of equipment/trucks. Work is performed per the supervisor’s instruction, with limited direct supervision on routine tasks. Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions) Operate trucks in a safe and professional manner on public highways, roads, yard areas and job sites to deliver materials. Trucks include end dumps, belly dumps, dump trucks, semi-tractors with attached trailers, and lowboy. Perform daily pre/post-trip inspections with documentation in compliance with DOT guidelines. Check fluid levels, tires, lights, and other controls for safe operation. Attach and remove pup trailers, belly dump and side dump trailers, transfer trailers and tilt/transport trailers as needed. Maintain accurate logs of deliveries and complete required paperwork for billing. Load and unload equipment or materials. Monitor gauges during operation and maintain daily vehicle mileage logs. Unroll truck tarps to cover loads when required. Ensure product quality to the best of the driver’s ability. Perform minor maintenance on equipment; report major problems to the supervisor. Follow all company policies and safe working procedures; report issues to Foreman, Superintendent, Safety Manager, or Human Resources Manager. Obey applicable laws and dispatch instructions. Keep vehicle clean and in good condition. Maintain regular and predictable attendance. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Education/Experience Minimum of a high school diploma or GED. Two years of related tractor/trailer driving experience preferred but not required. Must hold a CDL A or CDL B license. Work Requirements Must be 18 years or older. Must pass DOT physical, drug screen, and criminal background check. MVR must meet company and DOT standards. Adhere to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook. Display a professional and courteous attitude toward co-workers, supervisors, and the public. Willing to work in a team environment and assist with other duties as required. Maintain a current driver’s license meeting state requirements (CDL Class A and/or B; hazmat/tanker endorsements if applicable). Willing to train employees who may not have driving experience. Willing to travel and work away from home when required; may include nights and weekends. Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as designated (e.g., safety shoes, face shield, coveralls). Compliance with OSHA and MSHA regulations. Knowledge/Skill Requirements Operational knowledge of trucks and related equipment. Ability to operate safely under various conditions and to read, write, and perform basic math for records and documentation. Ability to work in team settings and independently with attention to detail. Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions; effective verbal and written communication. Ability to operate heavy equipment with independent judgment and secure heavy equipment/oversize loads. Ability to interact professionally with customers and assist with issues as needed. Physical Requirements Climbing, stooping, bending, squatting, lifting, sitting/driving, and load-covering activities. Ability to stand, walk, use hands, balance, and eye/hand coordination. May require extended sitting; vision with correction for close and distance tasks; ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Access in and out of cab with up to 3–4 steps; frequent entry/exit may occur. Work Environment Work in all weather conditions; exposure to fumes and airborne particles; moving mechanical parts; high places; and variable noise levels.
