Technical Lead - Civil & Structural Engineer

Location: Lake Mary, FL
Salary Range: $125,000-$140,000
Employment Type: W2 (Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship)

Alphanumeric is hiring a Technical Lead - Civil & Structural Engineer to support an environmentally focused energy innovator committed to sustainability and next-generation clean-power solutions. This senior-level role will lead civil and structural design efforts across new and ongoing engineering programs, guiding project execution, technical quality, and team development.

The ideal candidate is an accomplished Civil/Structural Engineer with deep technical expertise, strong leadership capabilities, and demonstrated experience managing complex engineering deliverables. You will oversee the design and analysis of major structural components-including steel structures, concrete foundations, support systems, and equipment enclosures-while mentoring engineers and driving consistency, innovation, and execution excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead, perform, review, and approve structural engineering design and analysis for steel structures and concrete foundations.
  • Interpret and integrate design requirements from customers, suppliers, and internal engineering groups.
  • Develop and review technical requirements supporting proposals, bids, and overall project strategies.
  • Represent the Civil/Structural Engineering team in technical discussions with customers, providing expert guidance and solutions.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Supply Chain, Quality, Construction, Project Management, and other engineering teams to resolve scope-related issues.
  • Support product simplification and standardization initiatives to enhance manufacturability and reduce cost.
  • Advance design standards for turbine generator foundations, air intake systems, enclosures, and piping support structures.
  • Lead meetings and design reviews with international engineering partners, ensuring alignment and successful implementation.
  • Oversee team execution schedules, expedited engineering activities, escalated technical needs, and delivery milestones.
  • Train and mentor engineers in structural analysis, calculation methodologies, and sound engineering judgment.
  • Assess team workload and coordinate with management to balance resources and maintain efficiency.
  • Prepare and review budgets, bids, technical documents, and commercial requirements.
  • Verify that arrangement drawings, structural interfaces, and foundation details meet all requirements.
  • Provide performance insights to the team manager and contribute to evaluations, coaching, and continuous improvement.
  • Support recruiting, hiring, and onboarding efforts to strengthen the Civil/Structural Engineering team.


Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering and active Professional Engineer (PE) licensure required.
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant engineering experience; strong preference for experience in gas turbines, auxiliary systems, nuclear design, or rotating equipment foundations.
  • Expertise with industry codes and standards including ASCE 7, IBC, AISC 360, ACI 318, OSHA; familiarity with AISC 341, ACI 351, DIN 4024, ISO 1940 is a plus.

Experience with:

  • SmartPlant 3D, Tekla, Revit (3D integrated design environments)
  • STAAD.Pro, SAP2000, GT Strudl (structural analysis tools)
  • AutoCAD, MicroStation (2D CAD platforms)
  • Ability to travel up to 10%, including occasional international travel based on project needs.
