Job Description
The AVP Clinical Laboratories sets the strategic direction and is responsible for all aspects of ProMedica Laboratory services including Anatomic Pathology, Clinical Laboratory, Outreach, Quality Management System, Process Improvement, Standardization, Regulatory Compliance, Customer Service, and the Courier programs. The AVP maintains effective and collaborative relationships with the executives and laboratory directors across the organization to maximize the success of laboratory and courier services.
ACCOUNTABILITIES
Directs system-level laboratory quality programs, technical and pre-analytic standardization, and process improvement activities. Ensures high levels of customer service and satisfaction for all ProMedica hospitals and outreach physician clients.
Collaborates with the executive management team on strategic planning and directs short and long-range planning of areas of control to achieve financial and operational objectives.
Oversees management of third-party contracts within the laboratory service line and evaluates contract performance to ensure quality and efficiency of services.
Responsible for oversight of anatomic pathology services including contracted medical director and physician agreements.
Directs recruitment, selection, supervision, discipline, and evaluation of associates within the area of control.
Anticipates changes and maintains appropriate resource levels based on patient and procedure volume trends.
Maintains accessibility to, and open communication with physicians and other professional staff to ensure strong working relationships.
Demonstrates a commitment to ongoing staff development by supporting educational programs and training opportunities.
Responsible for maintaining the ProMedica laboratories in good standing with all licensing and accrediting agencies.
Ensures compliance with established system and departmental policies and procedures.
Establishes and maintains local, regional, and national networks of professional contacts.
Performs other responsibilities as assigned.
Job Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science.
Must possess analytical, organizational, interpersonal, communication and leadership skills necessary to ensure effective delivery of services.
A minimum of 7 years of previous administrative laboratory leadership experience in an integrated health system.
Must be certified by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS
Master’s degree in Business, Healthcare Administration.
Deep understanding of clinical laboratory operations and knowledge of laboratory regulations and standards.
10 years of previous administrative laboratory leadership experience.
American Society for Clinical Pathology registered as Medical Laboratory Scientist, Medical Technologist, Cytotechnologist, Histotechnologist.
